Being one of the younger RAF Regiment Squadrons, 15 Sqn was formed from 2700 Light Anti-Aircraft Sqn in 1946 and was renamed No 15 Sqn RAF Regiment in 1947.

Currently based at RAF Marham, the Squadron has been located in many areas where the Royal Air Force has been involved, including; Northern Ireland, Brunei, Singapore, Middle East, Hong Kong, Malta and Cyprus.

In 1982, 15 Sqn RAF Regiment became a Light Armour Squadron equipped with CVR(T) vehicles (Scorpion and Scimitar light reconnaissance tanks), and a flight was deployed to Ascension Island during Operation Corporate.

In 1990, the Squadron reverted to its original air defence role equipped with the Rapier SAM system.

2006 saw the Squadron reverting to the GD role in Iraq and Afghanistan.

2014 saw the Squadron in Air Defence Role at Camp Bastion. Some of 15 Sqn gunners were in the last wave of helicopters to leave the base, with the last personnel returning to UK in 2014.

The Squadrons’ role in the Afghanistan War between 2001-2014 has been recognised by their being awarded the right to emblazon a battle honour on their Standard.
